Outreach and Mentorship Programs

The Federation, Nova Scotia Woodlot Owners and Operators Association (NSWOOA) and the Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute (MTRI), offer an outreach initiative called the “Small Woodland Owner Mentorship Program.” The program was developed with the help of the Department of Lands and Forestry to provide prospective and current small landowners with

The intention of the program is to encourage discussion between experienced landowners, forestry experts, and other attendees to learn from one another. Events are held with experienced woodlot owners who kindly offer their space for the day and share their stories that coincide with the existing Woodlot Management Home Study Program offered by the Department of Lands and Forestry. Events typically happen in the summer or fall months in various locations throughout Nova Scotia. We are currently looking into creating a more year-round program that incorporates more forestry-related management activities across the four seasons.
